After three days being cancelled due to wet weather, it was a huge relief
for SSJC organizers to see jumping back at their Clarendon grounds again on
Sunday 19th September.
Coordinator Karinda Albert said, "The weather was idyllic and the grounds
were superb. We had great entries in all three rings and all riders were
delighted to be jumping again!"
Many riders were absent competing at the Lugano Festival's "Jump In the
Park" event, where SSJC Committee member Jenny Shepherd won in an
exhilarating jump off on her mare Licarra, from Vicki Roycroft second and
Andrew Inglis third.
Judges at Clarendon were Joyce Brooks, Juho Luveer and Sue Nault. Courses
were designed by Mark Atkins and David Lawrence.
Aoife Scanlon, who trains with LuLu McInnerny at Peppertree Stables made an
impressive competition debut on Rosie to win the 60 & the 70cm Junior
events.
In the main ring the Chatham Park riders dominated, with George Sanna
winning the 1.30m stylishly on Charles Blinkworth's CP Romantic Dream,
Monika Herfuth on Twins Pocket Watch the 1.10m, and Greer Butcher on Twins
Lovesong the 1.10 height class.
Robert Hines, who is the new stable rider at Chatham Park, looked good
winning the 1.20m aboard Kosta. Robert has been competing and training
horses in Europe for the last 18 years, but was originally from Western
Victoria.
George has just returned from a successful Adelaide Royal with his mare
Aprilla, and will leave later this week to watch wife Rachel represent
Australia in the dressage at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
Several junior riders who are in Sydney from all over Australia, preparing
for the National Pony Club Championships, rode on borrowed horses.
Two girls from Perth, Jessie Cappendall and Indianna Weinhardt, rode the
Beneke's horses Cujo & Aloha Dessert Berry for good results.
